3 Days of Celebrating - Son House and his music

Come join us for a weekend filled with music and celebration as we pay tribute to the legendary blues musician, Son House, in his hometown of Clarksdale, MS. Get ready to groove to some soulful tunes and enjoy film screenings and panel discussions about Son House and the history of the blues.

Thursday May 29

Opening Night Fundraiser & Reception - Donations Accepted

  • Location: The Blue Room (216 3rd St.)

  • Time: 6 pm

  • Light fare and Red Panther Brewing beer available. BYO wine and spirits.

Friday May 30

  • 4 - 5:30 pm: Documentary screening of Two Trains Runnin’

    Two Trains Runnin’ depicts the rediscovery of Son House in 1964, as well as the Civil Rights movement at that time.

  • 6 -7 pm: Panel Discussion with musicians & Son House historians.

    We will have panel discussions with musicians Joe Beard and John Mooney, and various authors, including Daniel Beaumont, who wrote the definitive Son House biography Preachin’ the Blues. Also on the panels will be Tammy Turner, author of the biography Dick Waterman: A Life in Blues, about the man who helped rediscover and later managed Son House. Finally, we will hear from playwright Keith Glover, who wrote the play REVIVAL, The Resurrection of Son House.

  • 8 -9 pm: Screening of recorded Son House performance

  • 9 pm until: Son House Jam Session

Saturday May 31

Son House Tribute Show featuring Joe Beard, John Mooney, and Big A & The Allstars

  • Location: Ground Zero Blues Club (387 Delta Ave.)

  • Time: Doors open at 11 am for lunch & dinner; Show at 7 pm
