For more natural pastimes, Coahoma County has several waterways for your outdoor enjoyment. The Mississippi River forms the western boundary of the county. Canoe excursions are available through the Quapaw Canoe Company. They provide custom-guided excursions on the river, by canoe or kayak. These excursions are often in their hand-made 26.5-foot cypress strip canoes and include visits to sandbars and open-fire cooking. For more information, contact Quapaw Canoe Company at 662-627-4070 or 662-902-7841.

If you’re looking for lake activities, Coahoma County has several public lakes for you to visit including DeSoto Lake, Moon Lake, and Stovall Lake.
DeSoto Lake is a 3,600 acres oxbow lake that was formerly part of the Mississippi River. It offers good fishing for many species of fish including largemouth bass, crappie, bream (bluegill), and catfish. The River can be accessed on the lake’s south end. For the best fishing, visit the lake when the MS River gauge reads between 10’ and 17’ on the Helena Gauge. DeSoto Lake is located west of Clarksdale, 6 miles south of the junction of Highways 1 and 322.

Moon Lake is another oxbow lake that is 2,200 acres and was formerly part of the MS River. Like DeSoto Lake, many species of fish can be found here including including largemouth bass, crappie, bream (bluegill), and catfish. Moon Lake, however, has special regulations for bass that are in effect due to poor spawning of largemouth bass. These regulations will remain in effect until bass populations recover. Daily bag limit is two (2) bass that are 15 inches or larger. All bass less than 15 inches must be released unharmed back into the lake. Moon Lake is located north of Clarksdale, 4 miles south of the junction of Highways 1 and 49.

Stovall Lake is a 1,200 acre oxbow lake that serves as home to largemouth bass, crappie, bream (bluegill), and channel catfish. Access is available from the Mississippi River during high water. A public boat ramp is located on the southeast corner of the lake. Stovall Lake is located 7 miles northwest of Clarksdale.
